"CHI KUNG can help you smooth, regulate and boost the flow of energy in the body."  L.S.

The Living Art of CHI KUNG
A New Book by Lizzie Slowe

"THE LIVING ART OF CHI KUNG  is an accessible manual, taking the reader through how, what and why to practise CHI KUNG..
CHI KUNG has a remarkable relevance to life today, as do the Taoist principles on which it is based.

The ancient Taoist teachings and practises are made simple and approachable with a combination of unique descriptions, analogies, anecdotes and illustrations.  The title of the book encapsulates my intention of taking the ancient Taoist art and making it accessible and relatable, of pointing towards possibilities, rather than being a focused academic text.

I’ve aimed to convey the subtleties of practise and their relevance today, and provide an accessible manual for anyone who’s interested in
CHI KUNG, or even just some body focused awareness."

What is CHI KUNG

CHI KUNG (or Qi Gong) is a practise based in Daoist philosophy. The basic principle is that we practise being acutely aware of ourselves; our posture; our physical habits of how we breathe and move; and how and where we hold tension. Then using CHI KUNG postures and movements (or forms) we open and strengthen some parts of our bodies, while releasing and allowing other parts of our bodies to become softer and more relaxed.

In terms of our energy (or Chi) we open the channels or meridians for the energy to flow freely. Daoist philosophy has within it the theory of Yin and Yang, which are simply opposites. Unhindered, they will constantly flow into a state of balance (just as in terms of Science, the universe is constantly trying to find a balance). So with CHI KUNG, we aim to make ourselves an environment where our energy can do just that.

“It’s the best way I have found to consistently maintain and improve my own health." - Lizzie Slowe
"Chi Kung is a practise which combines simple gentle movements with awareness and breathing to support greater health and happiness."

- Lizzie Slowe -
Simple warm ups and postures (both still and standing) are learnt and practised.  None of it is complicated, and can be practised by  absolutely anyone - beginners and advanced  practitioners alike will do the same exercises, but the experience does unfold with time.  We can encourage various paths or aspects of our energy with specifically targeted forms, for instance, seasonal movements, or forms specifically to calm, ground or energise.

Benefits can be felt immediately, however after a few sessions effects may become more pronounced. The saying goes that every time you do a CHI KUNG practise you place a sheet of paper on a stack (the stack being your “pile of good health”). It doesn’t matter whether you practise consecutive days or not, but every practise increases your good health.
