Equine Facilitated Therapy

Working with horses through relational horsemanship exercises, directly enables a person to understand and accept how often unconscious thoughts and feelings get in the way of our intended outcomes." SUN TUI - IFEAL

Equine Facilitated Therapy

Equine Facilitated Therapy is unique, not just because it takes place outside in nature, but because insights and meaningful experiences come through the lens of, and the relationship with, the horse.

The quest to relieve suffering, and improve our experience is common. Making changes in our lives sounds easy and yet is often anything but. Equine Facilitated Therapy is a remarkable way of enabling you to explore and embody change in a gentle, tangible and often powerful way.

Equine Facilitated Therapy is not regulated. Before you book a session do make sure to the best of your ability that the facilitator you choose has completed a regulated training, has regular professional supervision, and is a member of a body that has a robust code of ethics.

Why Horses?

Picture
The horse will always react honestly to how a person presents, and can give us so much feedback on all the unspoken parts of ourselves.  This can lead to really profound insights and shifts in how we are in the world – the ripples of which can touch every aspect of our lives.

Horses respond to intention which they can read easily and with great sensitivity.  Exploring what we intend and how we focus it can help us to become more focused and productive in our lives
Learning to be ourselves and true to ourselves can be challenging in the face of our own and others’ judgement. As horses respond without judgment, we can more easily find a space where we can flow with instinct and intuition and learn to trust both.

Making changes to our lives always seems to sound easier than it is.  Until we become present with how we feel now, we will struggle to move towards a preferred future.  Horses prefer people to be congruent and respond differently when we are missing signs or information from our own body and feelings.  As humans we have a tendency to override these signals, so the feedback from a horse can be helpful in acknowledging what we may have been ignoring.
Finding a state of stillness and peace, although always possible can be elusive.  Horses naturally have those qualities in abundance and can model it and so share it with us. Once learnt, being able to access such stillness allows us a chance to take stock and replenish ourselves.

Experiencing a facilitated relationship with a horse (or horses) can touch inner depths for many people.  Horses will meet you on a feeling level, bypassing all our stories, histories and layers of reasoning about who and how we are.

"A horse will always react honestly to how
a person presents and give us
so much feedback on
all the unspoken parts of
ourselves.”
